Student Athlete: i requisiti per l'eligibility NCAA

Sei molto bravo in uno sport e vorresti giocare a livello professionale, senza rinunciare per questo allo studio o indebitarti? Forse una borsa di studio sportiva è quello che fa per te! Scopri come ottenerla nel post! 

In questi anni ho tradotto molti documenti per student athletes. Ma chi sono esattamente?
Lo studente-atleta è uno studente della scuola secondaria di secondo grado che, eccellendo in uno sport, può richiedere una borsa di studio sportiva. In questo modo potrà studiare presso un college americano e praticare anche lo sport preferito.
E' un sogno a occhi aperti, ma anche un'esperienza profondamente formativa, come racconta questa mia cliente su Facebook:

Being a student athlete has been the toughest thing I've ever experienced so far in my life. 6:30am practices where showing up is not enough. you have to perform and put the work. Later at school the professor will not look at you differently because you woke up 4 hours before everyone else in your class. You have to show up and do the work. After class, nobody is gonna cook or clean up your room for you because you are too tired to do it. You have to do it! This experience is changing my life forever, I am learning every day who I really am and who I want to be in my life. Being a student athlete has been the toughest decision in my life. But it has also been the most amazing one.

NCAA: che cos'è
Tutti i miei clienti si sono iscritti alla NCAA, ovvero la National College Athletic Association, suddivisa in 3 divisioni principali:

• Division I: comprende i campionati di primo livello, con maggiore visibilità; sono i più ambiti dagli sportivi che vorrebbero continuare un percorso come sportivi professionisti. La maggior parte dei college più grandi e riconosciuti partecipa a questa divisione.
• Division II: comprende gli istituti di media e piccola grandezza.  Siccome negli sport più popolari centinaia di scuole partecipano ai campionati, anche in questa divisione il livello è comunque alto presso buona parte delle scuole.
• Divisione III: ha una quantità di programmi sportivi superiori ma il livello sportivo è decisamente meno competitivo avendo come priorità lo sviluppo accademico dello studente.

Ammissione all'NCAA: documenti e traduzioni

Per iscriverti alla NCAA e diventare uno student athlete devi ​

1. produrre una traduzione certificata (literal, line-by-line translation) delle tue pagelle (school reports) e di una proof of graduation (certificato di maturità). 
2. Il traduttore deve inviare la documentazione all'indirizzo email dell'NCAA indicando il  nome e ID dello studente (il numero di matricola nel college americano) e completare il tutto con i propri dati e recapiti, in modo che la traduzione sia verificabile. 

Attenzione: il professionista a cui ti affiderai

• deve essere iscritto o all'Albo della Camera di Commercio, o a quello del Tribunale, o a qualche associazione professionale.
• E non puoi farti le traduzioni da solo, oppure farle certificare a un tuo parente (anche se fosse traduttore professionista).

Non-English Language Transcripts and Documentation

If English is not the primary language of instruction at the school you attended, a certified line-by-line English translation for each of your native language documents must be provided to the NCAA Eligibility Center.
[...] Ask your school for certified copies of your documents and have a qualified translator create word-for-word, line-by-line translations of the documents.
The translator must provide a letter including the following information:

• Appropriate stamps or seals explaining his or her qualifications as a translator.
• The translator’s full name, mailing address, telephone number, email address or other means by which the authenticity of the translation can be verified.
• Please note: The translator may not be related to you.

Per trovare la borsa di studio sportiva USA più adatta a te ci sono numerose agenzie, basta guardare online. Per le traduzioni invece, chiedi pure a me ;)
